North Texas TORCH is an organization formed by a professional community of residential assisted living and personal care providers. Many were originally trained as nurses, nurse practitioners, or in other allied health care occupations.
As the North Texas Chapter of the Texas Organization of Residential Care Homes, we are dedicated to promoting superior quality living environments in the North Texas area, encouraging every Resident’s emotional and physical well-being. Residents need basic medical model services for health and safety. Families need to have the security that comes from knowing an elder family member will have the degree of enriched living services and activities their condition and circumstances require. They should have good days with staff who can both care for them and appreciate and respond to their needs as elder adults.
Residential assisted living and personal care homes allow for more individual attention.
Each of these residential and care communities is a chosen family – adults who have come together to lighten a load that has just simply gotten too heavy – where health conditions or other disabling issues make staff assistance with their tasks of daily living a valued asset. Some homes provide transportation for medical visits and in-house physician or nurse visits. In some homes, all services come in for the Resident. If that is the family’s wish, every service from doctors and dentists to stylists and barbers can come to the residence. Each residential assisted living or personal care community will also utilize local home health agencies for doctor-ordered treatments, such as physical, speech or occupational therapies. All homes supply medication management, meals, housekeeping, exercise, stimulation and a safe, supervised living environment. When end-of-life issues arise, most bring in extra care in the form of hospice services – which assists both the fragile elder and supports some of the family’s needs. Many homes have regular interactions with pets and children.
TORCH members strive to create homes with dignity and validation for adults unable to live independently as a result of physical or mental limitations.
